She Goat is taking Soho Theatre by storm with their new show Iron Fantasy

Jasmine Kahlia:

I was privileged to work on She Goat's R&D at Camden People's Theatre last year in May. She Goat is made of two interdisciplinary geniuses: Shamira Turner and Eugénie Pastor.

Together they combine music, social insight and humour to make delicate but profound shows.

In 2020 [JUST BEFORE GLOBAL LOCKDOWN], we were booked on the same season at Camden People's Theatre, where I got to see their touching radio piece: The Undefinable. Their show [THE UNDEFINABLE, SHE GOAT] was sold out and so was mine [DIVINE BEINGS, JASMINE KAHLIA].

It was a great moment in UK theatre. I didnt expect to feel so much when watching this piece back in 2020, but it really got me thinking about connection + queer love.

I also saw also the attention and care that they put into accessibility for their show - the entire piece was creatively audiodescribed - shows that they truly know their audience and most of all, they work really fucking hard. They are multi-instrumentalists and live performers - and they even did combat fighting training during rehearsal.

During R&D they travelled to Europe to pitch and share their show. And they pay collaborators fairly for their time.

I will be buying alll the tickets for the next show - please support and back these two powerhouses. And most of all - when original and dynamic culture is at a decline, it just makes sense to leave the house, have a laugh and witness true art in person. There may or may not be a raw egg involved - for those that are a bit squeamy [like me]. But judgin from the R&D version of this piece, I know you'll leave the theatre, happy, inspired and empowered.

Let's go, let's get this life!

Iron Fantasy:

A sweaty show with songs asking: what does it mean to feel strong?

Two confrontation-avoidant gentle beings finally decide to live out their 1990s TV fantasies and pump iron, strap on armour, and learn how to fight.

Mixing interviews with children, teens, and elders, with their own personal stories and medieval gymcore beats they made up, She Goat set forth on a quest to get strong, stay strong and find out what “strong” even means. In search of assertiveness! In search of a six-pack! Armed with flute, autoharp, and a lot of cottage cheese… This is IRON FANTASY.

Written and performed by She Goat (Shamira Turner and Eugénie Pastor).
